Rugby Skills
Today we got to learn some rugby skills when we worked with Chris. We learnt how to pass the ball to a partner and how to run and pass. At the end we had a game. When we got touched we had to pass the ball. We scored tries by the cones.

Flat Eric Visits
Last week we got a letter from the United States. Inside was Flat Eric and his dog Fosse. They are from Our Lady of Sorrows School in Texas. We are going to take care of them for a couple of weeks. They will have lots of adventures with the Room 4 children. Hannah took a photo of Flat Eric with Jasmin and Ellie.

On Wednesday all the Junior Syndicate walked down to the domain for the Waimea Schools Junior Sports. There were five schools. We were put into 18 groups each with the name of a country and we did lots of different activities. Each group had 6 games to play. There were 18 activities all together. Our favourite activities were the parachute and the earth ball. We sang the National Anthem before we started. We had our morning tea in a plastic bag and all the group put their bags in one big container or bag. We were really tired after the morning of games and the walk back to school.

Walk To School Wednesday
Most of the school walked to school this morning even though there was a big change in the weather. We soon got warm walking and the heavy rain stayed away until we were all at school. Remember we are all walking every Wednesday, Rain, Hail or Shine. Bring a coat and/or an umbrella if it is raining.
Hayleys Birthday
In the weekend I had my birthday and we had heaps of fun. We played at home and then we went to the beach for lunch, for lunch we had some popcorn and jellies with fruit in it. After lunch we went to the aquarium in Mapua. We saw some stingrays. We put our face right up to the window and watched the stingrays swim past. We picked up some small starfish but had to keep them in the water, because we didn't want them to die. Dad borrowed my uncles car so we could fit my friends in with us. We had a really fun day!

New Zealand Wetas
Our blog friends, Kinderkids in New Hampshire, read a book called One Cold Wet Night by Joy Cowley. It was about Wetas and Kinderkids had never heard of them so sent us some questions about them. We looked in books in the library and found some answers to the questions.
If you have anymore interesting facts about Wetas leave them in a comment.
What do they do? Devin
Wetas are just large brown grasshopper like insects that cannot fly. There are over 100 different kinds of weta in New Zealand. There are 5 groups - tree weta, giant weta, ground weta, tusked weta and cave weta. All weta are animals of the night. They hide during the day, some climb under rock piles, some dig their own burrows in the soil, some find holes in tree trunks, others just camp under bark or amongst the leaves.
What do they eat? Evan and Jared and Chantelle
They have very strong jaws - good for chewing. They eat mostly fresh leaves but also small insects.
Can they crawl up vents? Joshua

They have big back legs f0r jumping. Some species can jump as high as 1.5 metres.

Yes, their antennae are very long. As their body is covered with a very strong shell (arm0ur) the antennae is the only way they can feel anything.

What color are they? Mikayla

Do they make any noise? Madeline
They make a noise like a fingernail running over the teeth of a comb. They do this by rubbing their back legs against their body.
How long are their legs? David
Weta's legs have 5-7 pairs of big spines on their legs. lengths are all different.
Have you seen any? Sarah
Yes we have seen them when gathering firewood and also on rocks.

BIrthday At The Beach
On Friday after school I went to the beach for my birthday party. Shania and Kate and Jasmin came to the beach with me. I went out in the deep end then came back to my Mum. Mum was going to take a photo. I swam down to Shania. Shania and I went down to the deep end. Shania kept on doing it. Dad told Daniel to go and get Shania and me. Shania built a sandcastle. After that Shania and I made a snow angel.

Fun At The Beach
In the weekend I went to Rabbit Island with Leanne and Mitchell and Ash and Zane came too. When we got there they were already there. Zane and I went into the water. We went into the deep part. Whenever a wave came behind us we would jump on to our boggie board. I was scared there might be a stingray in the water. After that we had some crackers and a drink of water.
