Cupcakes

On Friday morning Debbie bought some cupcakes she had made at home for us to ice. We made pink, blue and green icing and had lots of yummy things to put on the top. We iced some extras for Mr Baldwin, Mrs Stewart, Mr Phillips, Pete and Mrs Lines. Thanks Debbie. They looked fantastic and tasted delicious.

Cody Reads To The Class

Cody practiced reading The Buffalo's Child then he read it to the whole class. He read fluently and with expression and he knew all of the words. Well done Cody.

Brass Band

On Monday morning some members of the New Zealand Secondary School Brass Band came to Brightwater School to perform for us. Tania introduced each of the seven students and their instruments. They played eight different songs for us. They have been staying up at Teapot Valley Camp for a week and learning to play better. The students come from all over New Zealand.

New Baby

On Thursday my baby sister was born. Her name is Emily. She sucks my finger. Her hands are small. She looks like a lollipop. She cries a lot. She makes funny noises when she sleeps.

Daffodil Day

Today is Daffodil Day to support the Cancer Society. We bought a gold coin for the coin trail and some of us dressed in yellow. Edie's mother painted her t -shirt with daffodils and her face as well. Cody thinks there will be $300 on the coin trail. Rosie thinks there will be $400. We will have to wait and see how much there is when it is counted.

Rally Cars

On Thursday three rally cars came to Brightwater School. One of the drivers, Keiran Hall used to go to Brightwater School. He is Kynan's uncle. The other drivers were Dominic and Dean. Dean is leading the rally series at the moment. They are here to race in the Rally of Nelson on Saturday and Sunday.They can go really really fast. One can go over 200kph. They have roll cages and special seats and harnessess to keep them safe because they often have crashes. The co-driver sits in the passenger seat and reads the directions to the driver so he knows what corners are coming up. We got a poster and a map so we know where we can go and watch them on Saturday.

KIndy Visit

We went to Kindergarten and we went to the sandpit and we went on the digger. I helped Kynan and we went to the Quarry and we dug a big hole with the digger.

Riley and I played with two steering wheels and the car turned into a boat. Then I played on the swing. Then I did work. Then I watched the show. Then we walked back to school.

Mathletics

Special Visitor

Yesterday after school Corey's Nana came to pick him up. She had come all the way from Cissy Bay. She had her dog Abbey with her. Abbey was excited to see all of us on the mat. She was jumping around everywhere. We think she was very cute and cuddly.

Lunchtime Soccer

Today at lunchtime we played Room 3 at soccer. Room 3 won 1-0. When Johny was the goalie he stopped lots of goals and kicked the ball really hard down to the other end of the field.

Hockey Skills

On Tuesday we got to learn some hockey skills with Mr Head. We learned how to hold the stick correctly. We had to put our right hand half way down the stick like we were shaking hands. Our left hand was near the top. We pushed the ball around the hall and then we pushed it to our partner. We played a game in groups of four. One person was the goalie. They had to stop us hitting the cone.

Mia's Broken Arm

Last Friday lunchtime Mia fell off the big adventure playground bars and broke her arm. She came down to the sick bay and then she went to hospital in the ambulance with her Mum. When she got to hospital she had her arm x-rayed. It was badly broken and dislocated. She had an operation to fix it and now she has a nail in her arm. Mia stayed in hospital for one night. She watched the Princess and the Frog movie. When Mia woke up from her operation she had a very late tea. She had nuggets, jelly and yogurt. Now she is at home she is watching Ben 10 movies. Mia has to have her cast on for 5 weeks.

Robyn Belton Visit

On Wednesday afternoon Robyn Belton came to visit Brightwater School. She illustrates childrern's books. She showed us the Greedy Cat books she has illustrated. They are written by Joy Cowley. She read us Greedy Cat and the Goldfish and Herbert the Brave Sea Dog. She showed us some of the scribbling drawings that she starts with when she is illustrating. Her daughter Katie is in one of the books. Robyn went on a boat to see where Herbert fell in the sea. She autographed some of our books and left us the sketches that she did while she was here. One day one of us might be a famous illustrator like Robyn.

The whole school had a Wacky Hair Day to raise money for the Summit Rescue Helicopter. We had to bring a gold coin. Our class raised $30.00.

This morning we went out to learn ball skills with Mr Head. We threw the balls up to our nose with Mr Head. We made a nest to catch the ball. We put the ball between our feet like a penguin egg. We rolled the balls to a partner and we rolled them at a target. We threw the balls at the wall and caught them lots of times. We are going again tomorrow at 10 o'clock.

School Gala

Yesterday when I went to the school gala I got a fizzy and some candy floss. I went on the playground and I saw Amelia and Rosie. We played tag and played on the playground. I sat on the bars. We liked playing on the playground.

On Thursday 18 March we walked to the Brightwater Domain. I was in Skylah's group. I loved playing with the earth ball and I loved holding the earth ball high in the air and I went to the rugby. It was great fun. I was in my friend's group and he was called Bailey and he was from Ranzau School. I stopped at the earth ball to have morning tea. I loved the earth ball the best. It was great.

Rabbit Visitor

This morning Ethan's Mum, brought his sister Amelia's rabbit, Shrek, to visit Room 4. Shrek was on a lead. Shrek was hopping around the floor and then he was lying in Ethan's arms just like a baby. Shrek was very very fluffy.

Wave Pool

In the weekend I went to the wave pool with my sister Rosie.
It was nice and hot in the spa pool. I loved it. It was fun and we splashed.

In the holidays I went to the hydroslide with Amelia and and my Mum. I went down two times. Then Amelia went down one time.

Class of 2010

Day 1 in Room 4 was busy, busy, busy. We had news and recorded some children. You can listen to it on the wiki to the left of this page. We had assembly to welcome the three new teachers. We coloured in a present to stick on our birthday graph so we know when our birthdays are. We did storywriting and reading before lunch. After lunch we had a story, took some class photos and then went for a swim. Sam and Kynan got Proud of You awards for going under in the pool. By the time we got dressed, got our notices and our bags packed the bus bell went.
